From a circus top to late night movies: Broad Street Mall’s central role in Reading Fringe Festival

Broad Street Mall will see the circus come to town this year as families enjoy one of the Fringe Festival’s amazing venues.

For the first time in 2018, a circus tent will be put up inside the shopping centre which will be home to everything from stand-up comedy to poetry, family films and late-night screenings of cult classics.

Highlights include a screening of musical smash the Greatest Showman, comedy from TV and radio’s Nick Hall, and poetry exploring gender in Lolita Paints Her Toenails. A full list of screenings and shows can be found in the official Fringe Festival programme.

Festival director Zsuzsi Lindsay said: “We loved the idea of creating this space inside a busy shopping centre. The circus tent will not only look great, it will be really versatile. By day there’s lots for families to enjoy, and by night the atmosphere will be more cosy and intimate. We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Broad Street Mall for the first time this year.”

Graham Mountford, centre manager at Broad Street Mall said: “We’re

thrilled to be an official Fringe Festival venue this year. The

programme of screenings and shows planned for Broad St. Mall is really

exciting and diverse – offering something for everyone to enjoy –

from young couples, to families and the older generation.”
